I Built The Room I Needed
And honestly, I still need it.
I didn't build PATRIARCH because I figured everything out.
I built it because I haven't.
Nobody handed me a manual when I became a husband.
Nobody handed me one when my son was placed into my arms.
And when life got really hard?
I learned what a lot of men learn:
Figure it out. So I did. Sometimes well. Sometimes terribly.
I've burned myself out until I lost consciousness and came to on my back on the kitchen floor.
I've lived through the roommate phase and wondered how my wife and I became strangers.
I've worried about whether we had enough money to pay the bills.
I've disciplined my kids in ways I've felt embarassed about afterward.
I've let fear stop me from taking initiative.
I've tried to carry everything myself until God forced me to my knees.
And through almost every major turning point in my lifeβ
I've needed other men.
Men who knew something I didn't.
Men who could see something I couldn't.
Men who could challenge me.
Whose marriages taught me something about mine.
Whose fathering made me look at my own.
Whose faith strengthened mine.
Whose example raised my standard.
And I'm still learning.
How to be a better husband.
A better father.
A better provider.
A stronger man of faith.
A better example for my children.
A better leader for my family.
I don't think we're supposed to figure this whole thing out alone.
So this September, I'm putting together the room I wish I'd had when I got married. The room I wish I'd had when Theo was born. The room I wish I'd had when life first really kicked my ass.
And honestly? The room I still need today.
Ryan Michler.
Matt Beaudreau.
Mike Salemi.
Nate Feathers.
Pat Barber.
Gabriel Mira.
Steph Allen.
Daniel Grose.
And me.
Nine men.
Not because any of us has this whole thing figured out.
Because our families matter way too much to wing it alone.
You are the company you keep.
And that company shapes the man who walks through your door every night.
If you're on fire for your family and want to lead them even better β
I want you in this room.
